Unveiling subconscious lessons of urgency
Blessed be the longing that brought you here
And quickens your soul with wonder.
May you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire
That disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.
May you have the wisdom to enter generously into your own unease
To discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.
From “For Longing” by John O’Donahue
As we evolve (some may say “age”) and confront change on a whole new level of stinging loss, empty nesting, relationship upheavals, health challenges, career stagnancy or burnout, and seeing the next chapter of life unfolding right before our eyes, a sense of urgency can settle in with (what seems) even greater intensity than any other time of our lives.
It's easy to dismiss urgency as a pressure from an unreasonable toxic society or cultural norm associating our worth with production. But what if there's more to this urgency? What if there's an undercurrent of longing, a lighthouse of truth directing our life? What if this urgency has an innate purpose to shine a light on our desires... urging us to get real, to live our life unapologetically, to make it SO DAMN GOOD? Rather than merely discount urgency as false and toxic, what if we allowed curiosity to enter in and reflect the merit of this urgency?
Instead of getting swept up by the anxiety of time passing, use the reality of urgency to carry you into your best life. To live it now. To embrace it now. In its totality, its complexity.
Notice the urgency...somatically, spiritually, emotionally, … engage with its texture, its message, its motivation.
Get curious.
When we unpack this urgency, we may notice it’s there to remind us of our greater vision of our life; and that yes, our time in this life is finite. While we may start to direct this urgency toward controlling an outcome, instead, rein that control inward and consider:
What’s the underlying intention beneath that control? What is the subconscious motivation of the control?
Is it a deeper connection with someone you love (or finding love)?
Is it living your purpose rather than falling back to the familiar, the stale, what you know and deeply feel that you are beyond over with now?
Is it healing your body to live more fully in the time you have?
Whatever it may be, the urgency is calling you to both act and surrender.
Act & Surrender.
Act in alignment with your values. Act with inspired emotion. Act with trust in your value. Act with an awareness of who and what you can control, your thoughts and actions.
Surrender to the present…living and embodying your highest self, those values, that vision, now. Surrender to releasing attachment to the outcome, while maintaining a state of ease and gratitude now. What is here. What is Now.
So yes, urgency is a longing… a message quickening your soul and broadcasting the voice of your desire. Urgency opens the door for you to trust your wisdom to guide you through and into the unknown with greater acceptance and self love…creating a life of anchored, aligned, and empowered action.
Be curious about your longing, the urgency stirring in your heart. Listen to it. Smile as you awaken to its message, and let it propel you with joy and confidence.
